According to the Anthropology of Language textbook, “Most people use the phonological system(s) of the language(s) they grew up with, no matter how many additional languages they learn…. Using the phonological system of one language to speak another one will generally give you a ‘foreign-sounding’ accent” (p.50).

Do you, or someone you know, speak English with a “foreign-sounding” accent? Using the information presented in Chapter 3 of The Anthropology of Language textbook and in Chapter 3 of The Anthropology of Language Workbook, describe the details of this accent in phonetic terms. If you do not know someone who speaks English with a foreign-sounding accent personally you can use a figure from the popular media who speaks with an accent (e.g., Arnold Schwarzenegger). To avoid ethnocentrism in your analysis, please avoid judgmental statements; instead, try to describe the accent phonetically.
