Rising obesity levels put Americans at risk during pandemic

Opinion: A view, judgement, or appraisal formed in the mind about a particular matter or a belief stronger than impression and less strong than positive knowledge.
Each member of your team will write and submit an individual 3-4 page (not including reference page (total 5 pages) opinion paper and present this topic orally to the class as a team. The opinion paper will be submitted in D2L, under assignments.
HOW TO DO IT: For this opinion paper, choose a consumer health or public health issue that is current in today’s news headlines. This is an opportunity for you (and your team) to explore a public or consumer health personal interest area. I expect you to “think outside of the box” for this assignment. Write this opinion paper as if this was going to be published in either an on-line major newspaper, a healthcare journal, or a blog. Please do not re-write an article that you have read, or listened to, as doing so will result in a grade of a zero. Be careful to avoid any semblance of plagiarism with this paper. The intent is to hear what is going on inside of your head about whatever topic you write on (again, not a rewrite of any media, as this will result in a grade of a zero), with that opinion supported by facts and data from reliable sources.
Make sure that the paper has the following information:
1. Explain why this particular issue caught your attention (i.e. why are you concerned)
2. Clearly articulate your opinion about this issue and why it is important to public or consumer health.
3. Identify the consumer that is impacted the most by this issue
4. Suggest a remedy/solution describing what can or should be done to resolve any disagreements or challenges related to this issue or topic.
5. Develop a timeline as to how soon this issue, using your ideas and thoughts, could be made better/improved.
6. Make sure that you use reliable references to back up your ideas and/or the information that you are presenting (at least 3-5 resources).
Writing Guidelines:
1. Length of paper: Narrative of the paper should be no less than 3 pages, and no more than 4 pages (not including reference page on Page 5), double spaced. Text should start on or around the 2nd or 3rd line of the 1st page. Typeset and Font: Times New Roman, Calibri or Arial font, 12 point font. Do not leave unnecessary blank space to fill the page – point will be deducted for inappropriate formatting.
2. Use proper grammar and syntax. Consider Grammarly for this and other assignments.
3. Use APA 6th format. Guidance: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/
4. Reference page: single spaced and doubled-spaced between references. (Title of page should be bold and center justification)
Do not include a cover page. Use the header highlighted below. To use a header, do the following: (1) in your word document, click onto the tab labeled insert (2) find the words Header and click on that tab (3) find the built-in header that is labeled Blank (Three Columns) and click on that and this will insert your header. (4) Type in the following information below: (Note, make sure that this is in the correct typeset, you may need to change this, by selecting Times New Roman in the home page). (5) When you have finished typing in this information, then click on the Close Header (X) button to close the header.

Opinion Paper Presentation:
The opinion paper group presentation is not merely a reading of individual papers, but a discussion of the topic that your group chose to research. Your presentation should be a joint effort, with each group member having a significant role during the presentation of the topic. Groups may use any of the following formats for presenting the group topic:

• Video (must feature each group member, team must be available for Q&A after showing; video 6-7 min).

• PowerPoint presentation
• Poster presentation
• Infographic
All team members DO NOT have to share the same opinion on the selected topic, but the presentation should present each side of the issue during the presentation. All partners should submit the same presentation to the designated D2L box (to be established), however, will write and submit SEPARATE PAPERS!
Please see course schedule for the presentation date(s). Note: You will not orally present if you do not submit the paper on time. A penalty will be incurred and will be increased for each class day that the paper is late.
Presentations should be between 5-7 minutes. There will be an opportunity for classmates to ask questions, so please be prepared to answer a few questions at the end of presentations.
Presentation Guidance: All presentations should include:
1- Summarize key issues of importance related to the topic
2- Why this topic was important to the group
3- Why this topic is important to consumer and/or public health
4- A discussion of the various (most commons) opinions or sides of the issue
5- Potential solution(s) to address differing opinion
