Extra Credit Report

Directors and actors are not the only stars when it comes to movie making. Many talented individuals lend their craft to create iconic moments in film history. The following individuals have been crucial to the film industry, and their works set the standards for film work today.

For up to 20 points extra credit: please write a three (3) page, typed report on one of the following cinema legends:

Edith Head (costume designer) Hedda Hopper (gossip columnist)

Bernard Herrmann (composer) Saul Bass (graphic designer)

Max Factor (makeup) Pauline Kael (film critic)

Hal Needham (stunts) Ray Harryhausen (visual effects)

Busby Berkeley (choreographer) David O. Selznick (producer)

Elements to consider and research:

Background- What is the background of the artist? Where did they get their start in the film industry?

Stars and Studio- Who are the actors and people that are typically associated with the artists? To what studio or business are they attached?

Film- Are they attached to a particular film or films?

Work- What is considered their signature work?

Legend- Are there homages or references to the artist today?

Please find some photo samples of their work to go with your report.

In order to earn full points:

Submit three pages. Papers less than three pages will not be accepted, nor graded.
Please double-space, use 12-point font, and a universal font (Arial, Times / Times New Roman, Helvetica, Courier New / Couriere, or Verdana.)
Refer to people by their full names the first time and then by last name only in subsequent mentions.
A work citation page is not required, but the paper will be checked for originality. Reports that the paper is plagiarized, in any way, will not be graded.
