Rewrite the first 7 pages of the existing paper using the Mixed Methods Research Design.

Problem: State and explain the problem. Use data to prove that this problem exists nationally and locally and cite several scholarly sources as evidence that the problem exist.

Need for the Study: As a result of the noted problem, what question do you need answered? Explain how you might proceed to think about, organize, and diagram a potential mixed methods study to address your question.

Paradigm: Explain why you think a mixed method is appropriate or not for the study you have designed. Your response should include a scholarly discussion of the mixed method paradigm.

1. Based on the problem and need for study expressed in week 2, write the purpose of the study.
The purpose of study should reflect the mixed methods design, and both qualitative and quantitative strands. See example below.

Null Hypothesis

There is no relationship between students being bullied and students’ level of academic achievement.
Alternate Hypothesis

There is a positive relationship between students being bullied and students’ level of academic achievement.

Overarching Qualitative Research Question example

How do students who have been the victim of bullying, interpret and perceive the essence and meaningfulness of the lived experience of being bullied?

Sub-questions:

1. How do students who have been victims of bullying describe those experiences?

2. Given the experiences shared, how do students who have been the victim of bullying describe their interpretation of the experiences and perception of the essence and meaningfulness of their experiences?

1. Based on the purpose of study and research questions written, name the (a) mixed method design, (b) quantitative design, and (c) qualitative design that undergird this study.

2. From which population will the sample be solicited? In three paragraphs, give a full demographic description of the population.

3. With this being a mixed methods design bearing a quantitative and a qualitative strand, sampling methods for both strands (probability and non-probability) must be considered.

Quantitative Sampling Method:

Qualitative Sampling Method:
Describe the non-probability sampling method which will be used, it’s benefits and challenges, rationale for selection, qualitative strand’s sample size, and rationale for selecting the sample size. Determine if the qualitative sample will be drawn from the quantitative sample or will they be drawn independent of those who participated in the quantitative strand.

Name and scholarly define the theory (ies) being used to undergird this study. Ensure that the theory/theories align with the topic being studied, and the variables described in the research questions.

3. Data Collection

Quantitative Strand
When conducting the quantitative aspect of this study, what valid and reliable instrument will be used to collect the data? Ensure that the survey aligns with the variables noted in the quantitative research question. Be sure to thoroughly explain the constructs measured by this survey, and the survey’s Cronbach Alpha score.

Qualitative Strand
When conducting the qualitative aspect of this study, what data collection methods will be used? [Interviews – (semi-structured, unstructured, or semi-structured), open-ended questionnaires, document reviews, observations (participant or non-participant), and/or focus groups).
