Abnormal Psychology in the Movies

One of the most visible places to find examples of abnormal psychology is in movies.  This assignment will involve watching a popular film (released 1995 or later) that depicts some form of psychopathology. In your paper, I would like you to identify one individual and provide a comprehensive diagnosis of the character with the disorder and discuss that individual’s symptoms relative to the diagnostic criteria. Please also provide and discuss at least two etiological theories that could account for how this individual developed the disorder. Very importantly, I would like you to consider the positive and negative messages the movie gives the public about people with this disorder, as well as the mental health profession in general.

Using our library’s research database, EBSCOhost, you will then choose two scholarly articles published in a scientific, peer-reviewed journal of which the focus is on the diagnosis or etiology of the particular form of psychopathology or disorder portrayed in the movie. I would like you to reference the two scholarly articles and incorporate at least one scholarly journal article in your Research Paper, and discuss how the findings of that article may relate (or not) to the character in the movie.

The last date to submit this research paper is Tuesday, December, 2020. The following guidelines are to be followed:

  1. The paper will be 6-8 pages in length, including the Title Page and References.
  2. The paper should be written using APA format.
  3. The movie and psychological disorder you select must be approved by me and submitted in writing (via Mail Message) by October 2, 2020. No paper will be accepted without my prior approval, and each movie can only be selected by one student.  So, if you have a favorite movie, submit is as soon as possible for early approval.  A list of movies is provided on the next page.  You may only select a movie from this list.
  4. The paper should include the following sections: Title Page, Introduction, Body of the Paper, Conclusion, and References. A grading rubric will be available on our Blackboard Course Shell under the Assignments tab.
  5. Your paper should be submitted to the TURNITIN link found under the Assignments tab. No emailed or faxed copies will be accepted, and no papers will be accepted after 7:30 pm on December 15th,
