Assignment 3 requires additional research beyond the items listed in the “Reading Assignments” in the Study Guide. The “Supplementary Materials” listed in the Study Guide units and the Course Information may be used for this additional research. You may also find additional material not listed in the course. However, if the material is not peer reviewed, you must obtain your tutor’s approval before using it.

Although you are not required to do so, you are urged to refer to the “Supplementary Materials” in both the Study Guide units and the Course Information when conducting research and for additional materials that will help you better prepare for the assignment.

This assignment should be typed, double spaced, with margins of approximately 4 cm (1.5 in.) at the left and 2.5 cm (1 in.) at the top, bottom, and right–hand side.

Your grade for the assignment will be based partly on your knowledge and understanding of the course materials. It will also be based on your ability to synthesize your ideas in a clear and organized manner.

Question A:

Does self-government improve the condition of all Aboriginal peoples? Looking at either the Inuit, Métis or urban-based peoples (or any combination of the three), consider how the self-government model promises or challenges these groups in delivering self-government to their constituents and improving their socio-economic position.
