Find an accounting Job posting

BEGIN HERE

Find a job posting for a job you are interested in applying for.

Where do you find job postings?????

  • Job postings can come from:
    • job boards (Indeed, Monster, etc.)
    • company or government website
    • Handshake (Tarleton’s external employment system)
    • DOL’s Occupational Information Network: O*NET
    • newspaper, magazine, job fair handout, or other print media

After you research the company and/or industry and focus on the analysis components above, start writing down your thoughts. Although you are not turning anything in right now for this component, you should spend time now working on this part of the project.

This component of the final project will entail the following:

  •  Provide a summary of the company in your chosen job posting. You will need to include such items as company size (i.e, number of employees), location, business type, history, etc.  Remember to note and keep up with your references (START your Reference page). This part of the final project will be 1/2 page minimum.
  •  Discuss the items outlined above in the Analysis section. You will be expected to explain what you discovered in your research. This part of the final project will be 1/2 page minimum.

After you have spent time analyzing the type of recruitment source and gathered your thoughts on your cover letter and resume, start writing. Although you are not turning anything in right now for this component, you should spend time now working on this part of the project.

This component of the final project will entail the following:

  •  Compare and contrast, by identifying similarities and differences, the tasks from your job posting with the tasks from the job title on O*NET.  This part of the final project will include a table you create to display the tasks from your job posting and the tasks from the O*NET job title summary report. Also, this part will include a 1/2 page minimum written discussion about the task similarities and differences.
  •  Identify and discuss each knowledge, skill, and ability from your job posting by indicating how you meet or don’t yet meet each of these expectations. This part of the final project will be 1/2 page minimum.

This component of the final project will entail the following:

  • Identify and describe the specific type of recruitment source: internal or external that was used for your chosen job posting. If internal source, you will need to describe the processes, methods, and procedures the company used for this type of recruitment. If external source, identify and describe the specific external source detailed in the chapter of the textbook.
  • Create a resume and cover letter specifically in response to your chosen job posting as if you were actually applying for the job. Your cover letter and resume should be free from grammatical errors, spelling errors, and should be formatted according to generally accepted practices.

This component of the final project will entail the following:

  • What type of employment tests would you expect to encounter for your chosen job posting? Why do you think these types of employment tests would be used in the selection process for your chosen job posting? Be specific as it relates to this particular job posting.
  • What type(s) of work samples would you want the candidate (i.e., the applicant-you) to demonstrate and why? What would these work samples the applicant were required to do/submit demonstrate to the company? Be specific as it relates to this particular job posting.
  • Create at least two situational interview questions you think would be appropriate for this particular job posting. Why would these be good situational interview questions to ask as they relate to your chosen job posting?
  • Create at least two behavioral interview questions you think would be appropriate for this particular job posting. Why would these be good behavioral interview questions to ask as they relate to your chosen job posting?
  • For your chosen job posting, should the company use a multiple-hurdle model or compensatory model approach to the selection process? Why is this the best approach?

This component of the final project will entail the following:

  • For each KSAO deficiency you identified from the Final Project – Module 4, determine and discuss the best training method the company could use to train you. Be specific in your discussion. Explain why each training method would be a good fit for each deficiency.

This component of the final project will entail the following:

  • Discuss your preferred Communication Style based on the results of the self-assessment. Do you agree or disagree with the results, why? Be sure to report the results and scores in each section of the assessment.
  • Identify and explain how this assessment could be used by your manager at this company in the job posting to help develop you as an employee. Is there something in particular that this assessment would be a good use for? Think about succession planning and what the next level in the organization this job could lead to if you were developed by your manager.

This component of the final project will entail the following:

  • Discuss your preferences for receiving feedback based on the results of the self-assessment.
  • Identify and explain how this assessment could be used by your manager at this company in the job posting to understand how you react to feedback on the job.

    • If yes, then explain in some detail, incorporating the results of the self-assessment. Which sources of performance information (discussed in the textbook) would you want included and why?
    • If no, then explain in some detail, incorporating the results of the self-assessment. What method for measuring performance (discussed in the textbook) would you want instead and why?

This component of the final project will entail the following:

  • Discuss the results of the self-assessment by providing your scores to each of the 5 characteristics.
  • Identify and explain how this assessment could be used by your manager at this company in the job posting to understand what aspects of work satisfy you. This part of the discussion should be at least 1 paragraph (5-7 sentences).

  • Identify and explain how this assessment could be used by your manager at this company in the job posting to understand what aspects of pay satisfy you. This part of the discussion should be at least 1 paragraph (5-7 sentences).
