Consulting Project – the company chosen is Comcast

As a part of this project, you will act as a “consultant” to help an organization strategically compete on “a new level”.At the end of the semester, you will turn in a written report of your findings and recommendations to both the organization and myself.

The entire report should be single spaced, include footnotes where your data was collected as well as include graphs, tables, pictures and other relevant information

Part 1: What is the Company’s Strategy? (Read Intro to Strategy Article)

Write a 4-page paper on the company that you have chosen.Talk about the company’s history and the market in which they compete.If possible, provide some information about both the company and industry.Is the market/industry new?Is the company new? Is it a high-profit industry?Blue Ocean? What information can you tell me about the industry in which the company operates?As discussed in the lecture, the purpose of strategy is to understand the following: 1). Where is the company now? 2). Where does the company want to go? 3). How are they going to get there? As a part of this assignment, conduct interviews or, if interviews are unavailable, gather information from the company (customers, competitors, employees, websites, revenue analysis, etc) to better understand where the company is now, where it wants to go, and how it is going to get there. In the paper, feel free to discuss the company’s competitive advantage, how the company will add value, and how the company will remain competitive in the future?

Part2: Four Strategic ApproachesUsing the industry of your chosen company as the unit of analysis,

write a 2-pagereport explaining the four different types of strategic approaches and how your company uses them to provide a competitive advantage. Also, discuss what types of products or services make the company distinctive. If possible, provide some insight into the company’s competitive advantage and how they could improve it?How can they better connect with customers, build loyalty, and gain market share?

Part 3: Planning, Crafting, and Emergent Strategies

Write a 2-page report explaining the differences between planning, crafting, and emergent strategies.If possible, provide examples, from your company, of how they have used either planning, craftingor emergent strategies in the past and how they could utilize them in the future. If this information is unavailable, in your 2-page report, plan or craft a strategy for the company based upon your knowledge of how they current operate in the marketplace.What improvements could be made?

Part 4: Points of Parity/DifferentiationWrite a 2-page report explaining the differences between points of differentiation and points of parity.Then, using information about the company, identify the points of differentiation and points of parity with your competitors.Which points of parity/differentiation are most important for your company?Provide an analysis of the company using points of parity/differentiation. If found, discuss areas where the company may have points of differentiation but not points of parity.Discuss how this imbalance impacts the company in your 2-page report.

Part 5: Product Revenue AnalysisUsing several products or services from your company, conduct a product revenue analysis and write a 2-page report on your findings. In the analysis, discuss how the product revenue analysis can help organizations focus on high profit products and services while taking into account the popularity (or demand) for those products/services.What insight didyou gain from the analysis that you could share with your company?

Part 6: VRIO AnalysisWrite a 2-page report on the VRIO analysis,

explain what it is, and why it is important for an organization and then do a VRIO analysis on your organization.

Part 7: McKinsey 7S ModelCreate a McKinsey 7S model for your organization.

Explain the advantages and disadvantages of the McKinsey 7S Model. (No set page limit for this analysis).

Part 8: GE-McKinsey MatrixCreate a GE-McKinsey Matrix for your organization.Explain the advantages and disadvantages of the GE-McKinsey Matrix. (No set page limit for this analysis).
