Please make sure you have read Dear america by Jose Antonio Vargas You’ll pick TWO of these three questions to write about: America once prided itself on being “a nation of immigrants.” How has the national view of immigrants and immigration changed since the founding of the nation, and especially over the past fifty years, since the passage of the 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act? Do you believe that American is (still) a nation of immigrants? Why or why not? What does it take to survive as an undocumented person in the United States today? How has living a lie and hiding shaped the person Jose is and the profession he chose to pursue? How did he mask his status from those who did not know his secret before he came out as undocumented?  How has reading “Dear America” affected your opinion about immigration, migration, citizenship, and being an American? What are some common misconceptions the author dispels about “illegal” immigrants? Did you know that the process of citizenship was as difficult as it is? Why or why not? Answer the Two question choosed. Use the questions as a launching point for your analysis. You do NOT have to answer each aspect of the questions you have chosen – but rather use them as a starting point for your reflections.  Use at LEAST THREE direct quotes from each part of the book in your response to both questions. You can use more than three quotes from each part of the book, but three is the MINIMUM. Be sure to explain and expand upon the relevance of your quotes in your analysis.
