Microbiology Discussion Review the assigned reading to prepare for this discussion.  Biotechnology is the exploitation, manipulation or use of biological organisms for human benefit. Although the techniques used in biotechnology have changed a lot over time, this manipulation of organisms has occurred throughout human history. In fact, there are even mentions of biotechnology in the Bible. For example:  He told them another parable. “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened.” Matthew 13:33 ESV A little leaven leavens the whole lump. Galatians 5:9 ESV  Give strong drink to the one who is perishing, and wine to those in bitter distress; Proverbs 31:6 ESV  Everything that lives and moves will be food for you; just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you all things. Genesis 9:3 NIV For centuries, yeast (a microscopic fungus) has been used in bread baking and winemaking. Today, an abundance of microscopic and even larger organisms are manipulated for human purposes. Conduct some research through Google Scholar (opens in a new window) or PubMed (opens in a new window) to identify one specific example of biotechnology. For your example: Indicate the organism that is being isolated, manipulated or controlled. Specifically, describe how the organism is being manipulated to serve mankind.
