In-depth Research Article Critique: In this exercise, you will gain the experience of critiquing a research article based on your selected topic.   Steps of the process: ·         Select a topic with your group members. ·         Develop a PICO research question. ·         Conduct a search using the various electronic databases. Limit the search to the past 5 years. ·         Review abstracts. Pull off or print an appropriate research-based article. ·         Each group member will review their own article. ·         Write 1-2 paragraphs about your rationale for choosing the article (how does this fit our PICO question). (10%) (Include your PICO question) ·         Complete an in-depth written review of the article using the ARTICLE CRITIQUE GUIDELINE provided (see critique guideline). (80%)  ·          Adhere to APA format  (10%) ·          Submit the assignment and the article! Chose one quantitative peer-reviewed research study to review. Answer the following questions. Use these headings in your paper. (80% of grade for this assignment) STANDARDS/EVALUATION CRITERIA Research Problem and Purpose (5%)                                                                                                 What are the study problem and purpose? Is the problem significant and relevant to nursing? Literature Review (10%)                                                                                                                            Are relevant previous studies identified and described? Are relevant theories and models identified and described? Are the references current? Examine the number of sources in the past 5 and 10 years in the reference list. Study Framework (5%)                                                                                                                             Is a study framework identified? Research Objectives, Questions, or Hypotheses (5%)                                                                          Are the objectives, questions, or hypotheses clearly and concisely expressed? Are the objectives, questions, or hypotheses logically linked to the research purpose? Variables (10%)                                                                                                                                      Are the major variables or concepts identified and defined (conceptually and operationally)? Identify and define the appropriate variables included in the study: Independent Dependent Research variables or concepts   Design (10%)                                                                                                                                           Identify the specific design of the study. Does the study include a treatment or intervention? If so, is the treatment clearly described and consistently implemented?  What are the threats to design validity?  Sample, Population, and Setting (15%)                                                                                          Identify the sample size and indicate if a power analysis was conducted to determine sample size. Are the inclusion and exclusion sample criteria described? What are the potential biases in the sampling method?   Identify the sample attrition from the study. If more than one group is used, do the groups appear equivalent? Discuss the institutional review board approval and informed consent obtained. Are the rights of human subjects protected? Are the HIPAA privacy regulations followed in the study? Measurements (10%)                                                                                                                               What variables did the researchers measure? Which tools or instruments did they use to measure each variable? (make a list/table)  Do the instruments adequately measure the study variables? Are the instruments reliable and valid? For example:   For each variable list the tool/instrument used and reliability and validity information.     Data Collection (10%)                                                                                                                        How were the data collected during the study? Is the training of data collectors clearly described and adequate? Is the data collection process conducted in a consistent manner? Data Analyses (10%)                                                                                                                          What statistical analyses are included in the research report? Was the level of significance identified? Are the results presented in an understandable way? Are tables and figures used to synthesize and emphasize certain findings? Interpretation of Findings (10%)                                                                                                           Are findings discussed in relation to each objective, question or hypotheses? Were the statistically significant findings also examined for clinical significance? Did the researcher identify important study limitations? How do these findings relate to your PICO question?
