Art 100 – Final Exam

Description

Describe a portrait of yourself. 2 full pages long, MLA format. I’d like to know what would represent you, your feelings, or your situation. You’ve learned about art this semester and seen the ways it represents ideas, people, and expression; art is a very powerful tool for communicating whether at the direction of the patron who commissions a work or the artist themselves.  So, what would a work of art look like that represents you right now in May 2021? It might be a reflection of the events of the past year, or just a snapshot of daily life. It could be something massive and full of symbolism or a simple still image. I just want you to think about and describe to me what a work of art would look like that represents you as you are right now. Required Details What kind of work would it be; painting, sculpture, mixed media, etc? What materials would be used; oil, tempera, watercolor, marble, bronze, glass, fabric, etc? What style would it be; Greek sculpture, Renaissance painting, African mask, Japanese woodblock print, etc.? What does it look like; what’s in it? Use that all-important Skill of Describing video to tell me what you see in your mind’s eye and take me around this work Also use the formal elements (line, shape, color, etc.) or principles of design (balance, unity, scale, etc.) Tips This is about you so it can’t be wrong, just make sure you have all the necessary details. Explain your choices clearly for each detail. You could choose a bronze sculpture in the Ancient Greek style because you really like that culture or time period, or maybe your heritage is Greek. Maybe you really like Picasso’s work and so a Cubist-style portrait is what you would choose, or you admire the realism and symmetry of the Renaissance and would choose to fill your portrait full of important symbols about yourself. What is most important, apart from making sure you have all the necessary details, is that you describe this in such a way that I can see it clearly in my mind. *To be clear, this is not an art-making class so you are not making this portrait only describing it. This is an imagination exercise. However, you can make something if you wish to (like a painting, drawing, etc), but please then upload an image and give a brief description to go with it including all necessary details.
