As you have learned in every HUMS course, what we do as human service providers is based on theoretical concepts. For example, we try to develop rapport with a client because Carl Rogers told us it was important (see client-centered theory).  You must complete a 1500 – 2000-word final research paper on the theoretical approaches of human services professionalism. Do this by choosing an area of interest you have (Problems faced by children in foster care system) and describing the theoretical foundation that will inform your philosophy and practice as a human services professional. An example of theoretical foundation influencing practice is Miller and Rollnick’s Motivational Interviewing theory and practice. Another example is Family Preservation philosophy in child welfare agencies. The paper must be double-spaced, with no extra spacing between headings or paragraphs, have 1″ margins, and include an APA style heading structure, citations, and reference page.  Do not include a title page and abstract. Sources must include the textbook in addition to 5 other scholarly, peer-reviewed journal articles dated within the last 5 years. Direct quotes to other sources must make up less than 20% of the paper. A article review of four of the sources should also be completed and sent in before the final paper.
