These schools were run by the european and mostly christian settlers that came to canada. Residential schools were meant to “civilize and christianize” all the aboriginal people in canada. These schools were brutal and cruel to the aboriginal people and it tainted their culture. Point 1 – The aboriginal kids that went to residential school were usually beaten and abused mentally, physically and sexually. Point 2 – death from abuse, disease, etc was very common. It was so common that most residential schools had graveyards built right across the road from them. Point 3 – The aboriginal people were not allowed to speak their own language or practice their own culture. They would cut their hair and attempt to christianize them. This tainted their culture.
