Using the topic you chose to research

Description

Task: Using the topic you chose to research, write a well-developed bibliography with annotations (summary and analyses). This should be an EXPANDED or NARROWED idea that was inspired the topics you have been researching. Remember to define your terms and narrow your topic before you begin to do research. Be sure you have a research question to guide your search.

Consider: What is the relationship among corporations and youth?
  • How does popular culture and media frame historical events? Examine how race, class, gender, sexuality, and social histories are represented in popular culture and media.
  •  How can we take action for a just society and/or promote awareness of social issues?
  •  How can we use popular culture and media to transgress, break the rules and challenge the status quo?

Rhetorical Situation: • The Author – You – What is your author identity?

      • The Audience – Your peers and professor; can you narrow this?
       • The Purpose – To Inform; To Evaluate; To Review
       • The Stance – Objective
       • The Situation /Context – Why have you chosen this particular topic? Is it relevant to our local community? Our global community? Is it personal to you?
        • The Media – APA formatted, scholarly paper
        • The Design – Word document APA collage paper. Citing sources: Follow the APA format for Annotated Bibliography including cover page. Each annotation entry will consist of:
 1. APA formatted citation – this goes before each of the corresponding paragraphs.
2. Summary (150 words) – summary thesis will include the author, genre and title of the piece along a paraphrase or summary of the author’s main message. Include one direct quote per summary.
 3. Analysis (50 words) – Analyze the source’s credibility. (See Powerpoint.)
 4. Reflection (50 words) – Reflect on how you will use this source in your research. Requirements. As you compose your Annotated Bibliography, be sure to meet the following requirements:
 Final Essay Due: See Course Calendar for actual date.
 Length: 10+ pages (2500 words) in APA format – no reference page on an Annotated Bibliography. (Remember that the + means “more than.” This mean “7 or more full pages not counting your cover page.)
 Formatting: Follow the template and example for the bibliography. This will not look like a traditional essay. Follow the convention of APA – font type and size, margins, line spacing. No headings other than title. (Use The Little Seagull Handbook.)
 Sources: 10-15 sources (Tip more sources, less writing per source. See page requirements.)
 In your instructions and Powerpoint notes, the first sentence of your summary is a formal thesis on the author’s message. Include author(s) and title of article in a complex and intriguing overview of the article (not just the topic.)
 Include ONE (and only one) quote with intext documentation for each summary.
