Prompt:
Background:
One of the primary themes we will/have discuss(ed) in this course has been that of compromise. In many ways, the Constitution can be seen as a document of compromise. Not only is its structure the product of compromise, but it also compels our government to compromise between the three branches and between the various levels of government. Throughout history, the compromises at the heart of the Constitution, and the compromises as a result of our Constitution, have led to various outcomes both positive and negative.
Question:
How can we understand our Constitution as a document of compromise? What have been advantages to this compromise? What have been disadvantages? What has the primary effect of such compromise been for the US as a nation, and do you think that in general, this effect has been a positive or negative thing?
