• A series of body paragraphs that prove your thesis

  • Topic sentence for each paragraph

  • Ideas (opinions) and details (evidence) from the text about the protagonist

• Each body paragraph should have a minimum of three supporting ideas and details (for both the protagonist and you) to support the topicj sentence and the thesis.

  • nUse citations for all paraphrasing and direct quotations.

    • Paraphrasing – putting someone else’s ideas into your own words

    • Direct quotations – when you use the exact words from a text; these quotations must have “ and “ around them

    • Citations include the last name of the author, a comma, and the page number surrounded by brackets (McKay, 57)

      • Place the sentences punctuation after the bracket unless the question mark or exclamation mark belongs to the quotation

        • Jacob took note of the government voices as he “emerged “from his fog and leaned forward” (McKay, 123).

        • Jacob questioned if “maybe there they could rest?” (McKay, 78) when he heard that a village was nearby.

    • You will be using your source for each point in each paragraph, and so there will be a minimum of three citations (3 sources of evidence) per body paragraph.

  • These should smoothly segue between the paragraphs by summing up the paragraph you are leaving and foreshadowing whe

• A conclusion paragraph

  • Restate the thesis as completed

  • Summarize the topic sentences and evidence to show you have proven your thesis

  • Finish with a final thought about your subject and the thesis

• The final page is the “Works Cited” page.

  • This is a separate page

  • Works Cited is centered at the top of the page

  • List your sources using the correct lay out depending on the type of source you are using
