Anything that is globally politically related

Description

Purpose:  This assignment addresses this learning outcome:

Demonstrate information literacy. This includes the following skills:

  • Utilize search strategies to find relevant information.
  • Apply sound criteria (i.e., credibility, accuracy, and currency) to render an educated judgment about the quality of information.
  • Use information to effectively accomplish a clear purpose.

Description of assignment: Write a description of the case you have been researching (or a new one, if it was recommended you change cases). DO NOT ANALYZE the case – just describe who/what/where/when, but not why.

  1. Research a current or recent (~5 years) domestic political event or process in a foreign state. Note: This assignment does not allow analysis of the US, because a primary course objective is to “appraise political issues (in comparative context).” Your case could be a process such as a national election, an economic event with political effects, or a protest or other event that involves a country’s “national” government and its residents.

  1. Write a formal description of the case.  Do NOT ANALYZE the case.  Describe the event or process thoroughly and accurately, using the required number of sources (see below) and APA academic citation style.

Requirements and technical specifications:

  • Use the information from at least 4 sources, including 2 academic peer-reviewed journal articles and at least two news articles. The total sources may include those you found in your case research assignment.
  • Use APA citation style to cite all sources in the assignment, including in-text citations as well as bibliographic entries (which come at the end of the text). See http://research.ewu.edu/seven_stepsLinks to an external site. (Step 7: Cite What You Find Using a Standard Format).
  • See the example assignment posted on Canvas for an example of the depth of description and how APA in-text and end-of-text citation works.
  • The assignment should:
    • be typed, double-spaced, using 10, 11, or 12 point font and 1” margins
    • be written for an audience that has taken this class

Regarding Plagiarism & Academic Integrity: Plagiarism is “the act of taking another person’s writing, conversation, song, or even idea and passing it off as your own. This includes information from web pages, books, songs, television shows, email messages, interviews, articles, artworks or any other medium…Whenever you paraphrase, summarize, or take words, phrases, or sentences from another person’s work, it is necessary to indicate the source of the information within your paper using an internal citation. It is not enough to just list the source in a bibliography at the end of your paper. Failing to properly quote, cite or acknowledge someone else’s words or ideas with an internal citation is plagiarism.” (University of Southern Mississippi Libraries, 2019). If you have any questions about what plagiarism is, about citation styles, or other related concerns, please contact me.
