Description
Tutorial #1: Learn HTML (freeCodeCamp.org)
For Tutorial #1 you will need to work through and complete the “Basic HTML & HTML5” section located on the freeCodeCamp.org website.
freeCodeCamp is an educational web developers site with tutorials and references on web development languages such as HTML and CSS. Students in this class will work through this free website to practice easy and straight-forward coding through simple explanations, illustrations and tutorials.
This course is not about learning how to code your own site from the ground up, but it is still important for you to have a basic understanding of how HTML and CSS work. The majority of this course will be working with templated Website Platforms that already have the HTML and CSS created for you. However, there are times that you may want to make changes that require you to access the code. By having a basic understanding of code you will have more skills, experience, and confidence when working with your website.
You will NOT need to complete all 28 lessons listed within the Basic HTML & HTML 5 section. For this course you will need to complete the following areas:
Introduction to Basic HTML and HTML5
Say Hello to HTML Elements
Headline with the h2 Element
Inform with the Paragraph Element
Uncomment HTML
Comment out HTML
Delete HTML Elements
Introduction to HTML5 Elements
Add Images to Your Website
Link to External Pages with Anchor Elements
Link to Internal Sections of a Page with Anchor Elements
Nest an Anchor Element within a Paragraph
Turn an Image into a Link
Create a Bulleted Unordered List
Create an Ordered List
Nest Many Elements within a Single div Element
Declare the Doctype of an HTML Document
Define the Head and Body of an HTML Document
Once you have all the required lessons completed you will need to take a screenshot of your page to show that it has been completed and upload it into the Assignment area in Blackboard. I like to use the Awesome Screenshot App, but you can use whatever method you want to capture your screen.
Please use these tutorials and go through them as many times as you wish. I want you to feel comfortable with HTML coding. Do not wait until the last minute to try and go through all the tutorial sessions and attempt your exam. There are a total of 18 tutorials, my suggestion is that you break these down and go through 3-4 a night, which would still give you a couple of days to review or repeat any of the area.
Some additional coding sites that you may want to bookmark for use in the class are w3schools.com and Codecademy.com, these are additional free coding websites that are excellent resources to use when working with website building.
