Part One: Finding the Birthday Present

The Goal

Your job is to find an age-appropriate birthday gift that will encourage gross motor, fine motor, and/or sensory development and/or stimulation. 

The Rules

• You may not “spend”  more than $50.00 on your gift.  Do not actually buy it!!!!!
• Take a screenshot or picture of the gift. Or you may provide a link to the gift if you found it online.
• Below are listed 6 stages of life. 
  • You will select a stage of life.
  • You will then select an age range in that stage.
  • You will then find a gift for that age range.   

Stages of Life (subjectively determined)

1. 1. Ages 0 months – 6 years

      • Infant (Ages 0-11 months)
      • Toddler (Ages 12 – 35 months)
      • Early Childhood (Ages 3-6)

   2. Ages 7 – 12-years

      • Middle Childhood (Ages 7-9)
      • Late Childhood (Ages 10-12)

   3. Ages 13 – 25 years

      • Adolescence (Ages 13-18)
      • Emerging Adulthood (Ages 19-25)

   4. Ages 26 – 50 years

      • Young Adulthood (Ages 26-34)
      • Middle Adulthood (Ages 35-50)

   5. Ages 51 – 74 years

      • Late Adulthood (Ages 51-64)
      • Young Old (Ages 65-74)

   6. Ages 75 – 85 + years

      • Middle Old (Ages 75-84)
      • Old Old (Ages 85+)

Part Two: Presenting the Birthday Present

Submit your assessment of your gift by addressing the following.  

1. Take a screenshot or picture of the gift.  Attach and submit that image to this assignment. Or you may provide a link to the gift if you found it online.
2. Describe the gift.
   • What is it?
   • What is the recommended age range?
   • What does it do?  How does it work?
   • What is the source of stimulation? What function does it promote?
     • For example:
       • Is it designed to help gross or fine motor functioning or development?  If so what specifically and how.
       • Is it designed to promote sensory stimulation?  If so what specifically and how.
   • Is it safe?  Please describe why or why not this is safe.
   • How much does it cost?
   • Should we buy it and specifically why or why not?
3. Describe how you found this gift and why you selected it.
4. Summarize what you have learned by completing this exercise.
