Research Paper
You will write an 4 – 6 page research paper using MLA format on one of the authors or selections covered in this class. You may select your own topic, but you should approve it through me during the first week of class. I expect you to have outside sources, but the bulk of your paper may consist of personal insight and perspective gained from your own reading of our text. For the full 125 points, you should spend some time in the library researching background information on your topic and present it in a clear, concise, typed paper of at least 1000 words. It will be helpful for you to present me with a written research proposal during the first week or two of class–simply a paragraph or two outlining what you’ve decided to research (i.e., “Who was ‘Homer’ Really?” or “Tolstoy: Religious Icon of the Ukraine”) and explain what sources you intend to use; the thesis you intend to prove, disprove, or explain, and provide a very brief summary of your main points. Your finished paper should have a cover page, be double-spaced with 1 or 1.25-inch margins, and have works cited page.
