Anthony Boudain’s “Kitchen Confidential” Reflection Writing

1. Anthony Bourdain’s book is about his journey of not just becoming a chef, but becoming a fully realized adult, one who makes considered choices concerning his betterment and to the help of those about him. Every journey has a beginning, a middle, and an end.  His is no different.  Three labeled and numbered paragraphs with quotes form the book, page numbers included, concerning an example of his beginning, a turning point (middle), and finally his arrival at having learned something.
2. Review the section entitled “A Day in The Life”. This was the start of what become the book.  In it he paints a pretty impressive picture of the work ethic that many of you wrote about in your film papers—The American Dream.  Bourdain is at his full power and he shares openly the energies he must exert to be successful.  Examine this chapter and discuss your findings.  I am here to tell you this is where the “mountain king” resides; something wicked this way comes (hint, hint).
3. Coffee and cigarette. You select your favorite part and explain why this part speaks to you more than other parts of the book.  This should provide insight into who you are and way you make the choices you do, so beware what you are giving away and standing for in this monument moment provided with this question.
4. Bourdains book is meant to act as a kind of model in showing you how to make your experiences in living come alive. He writes with a gusto and precision that underlines his life.  Select three scenes for three paragraphs here where you quote the passage and page found on and then evaluate in depth the value of the scene displayed.
5. Is honesty the best policy? I believe that AB’s style throughout the book shines because of how “unblinking” he is in giving us details about his trade and life.  Reading him, what influenced you the most in your writing because of reading him?
