“While African people had been traveling the world and finding their way to different parts of the Americas before the 1400, it is their mass abduction into slavery that resulted in so many millions of them coming to the Americas against their will and stacking the foundations for the African Diaspora in the Americas as we know it today with over a 100 million African-descended people in Brazil, over 40 million in the United States and millions more in the Caribbean, South America, Canada and the islands of the Atlantic world”. Using the readings by Elliot Skinner entitled “The Dialectic Between Diasporas and Homelands” as well as George Shepperson’s “African Diaspora: Concept and Context”, discuss the major factors behind the rise and development of the African Diaspora in the Americas. Your discussion should trace the African people who were brought to the Americas (for the purposes of enslaving them) back to their ethnic groups and kingdoms from which they were uprooted. It should also outline where these ethnicities and kingdoms would be located in the context of today’s African countries. Your essay should also address how Africans responded to the process of being uprooted from their motherland as well as outlining the ports of embarkation in Africa, the countries to which they were taken, how many Africans were uprooted, and the European countries involved in the entire process.
