In response to the Katrina disaster podcast, build an argument in which you take a position about what should have been done in the trolley-like scenario unfolding before the medical professionals in Memorial hospital. How should they have decided which patients to save first and which should wait for care. Don’t rely in your argument merely on standard medical protocols or Monday morning quarterbacking. Put yourself in the position of the care providers. What criteria does one use to decide who gets the best care and life-saving treatment? Apply the concepts of duty (deontology) and greater good (utilitarianism) articulated by the philosophers in the handouts.
