Workshop Plan

Workshop Proposal
In your Final Project, imagine that your supervisor at the Multigenerational Center has requested a proposal for a Workshop to be presented, by you at the center. Your Workshop Plan will include a topic of your choice based on your field of study and the needs of your audience. You will use the Welcome to the Multigenerational Centerinteractive from Week 1 to understand your audience and to choose a topic for your workshop. Your supervisor has requested that you use a specific Summative Template  Download Summative Template to ensure that all components are comprehensively addressed. Since this is a substantial project for a new employee, your supervisor (instructor) will review major components of your proposal before your final submission.

Assignment Directions
There are multiple parts to this assignment. Please be sure to review the template completely, as well the due dates, to ensure that you are addressing your supervisors request in a timely manner. Parts of the assignment described below correspond to sections in the template. Review the completed Summative Template With Flyer Example  Download Summative Template With Flyer Example.

Part 1A: Workshop Details
Use the Summative Template, and fill out this section due in Week 3. Determine the name and the objective of your workshop. Be sure to create a title that will be enticing as well as meet the needs of your specific audience. Your title should reflect the workshop content, so you are sure to address your targeted audience. Using your field of study (BACD, BACS, BAECDDI, BAECE, BAECEA, BAES, BAELLS, BAID, BALS), determine the objective of the workshop. Your supervisor requests that you support your workshop topic with a relevant theory based on your field of study. You will research major theories in your field of study and include how your chosen theory supports your content choice. You will post the workshop details in the Week 4 discussion next week. Your supervisor (instructor) will include instructive feedback for you to make changes before the final submission. You will incorporate these suggestions into your final draft due in Week 5.

Template sections:

  • Workshop Title (Your title should convey the objective of the Workshop.  If it does not include 2-3 sentences explaining it.)
  • Explanation of Workshop (This should be at least one paragraph.)
  • Workshop Objective/Purpose (This should be at least one paragraph.)
  • Description of your target audience (program specific) (This should be at 2-3 sentences.)
  • An explanation of theory that supports your workshop content. You must include a quote from a scholarly reference to support your opinion to why your chosen theory works for your workshop. Must use at least one scholarly source. (1-2 Paragraphs)

Your instructor has the final say about the appropriateness of a specific source for a particular assignment.
  • Must include a separate reference page that is formatted according to APA Style as outlined in the Writing Center. See the APA: Formatting Your References List (Links to an external site.) resource in the Writing Center for specifications.

Part 1B: Workshop Flyer
Use the Summative Template,  and fill out this section due in Week 3. Your supervisor would like you to create a flyer to begin generating interest for your upcoming workshop. However, since this document will be displayed throughout the center, your supervisor requested you share it with your peers at the center for feedback before public display. The one-page flyer can be completed in Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, or (Links to an external site.) (free tool). Canva has a Tutorials (Links to an external site.) page to help you get started. Save the file as a PDF, and submit to the Week 3 discussion forum for peer feedback. You must also submit the revised version in your Week 3 Workshop Plan Part One Written Assignment. Here is the Summative Template With Flyer Example  Download Summative Template With Flyer Example document.

Your Flyer will include

  • The title of the workshop that will be presented at the Multigenerational Center.
  • The objective/purpose of the workshop.
  • The target audience (who should attend).
  • Your name (as the presenter).
  • Time, date, and place.
  • An image to represent the content.
  • Colorful and engaging content.

Part 2: Roadblocks
Use the Summative Template, and fill out the section due in Week 4. Your supervisor made suggestions in your first draft. You will revise your original work based on your supervisor’s (instructor’s) feedback.

Think about your target audience, and anticipate two possible issues or roadblocks that may arise. Using your background knowledge of your field of study, share two possible solutions for each roadblock. To substantiate your workshop topic and demonstrate the importance of this topic to your director, review the EDU499 Professional Standards by Program  Download EDU499 Professional Standards by Program table for your field of study. You will choose two of the following standards and explain how they represent the objective of your workshop:

  • Environment
  • Supplies
  • Roadblock #1
  • Solution #1
  • Solution #2
  • Roadblock #2
  • Solution #1
  • Solution #2
  • Professional Standard #1 and Explanation
  • Professional Standard #2 and Explanation

Part 3: Environment and Materials
Use the Summative Template,  and fill out this section due in Week 4. Your supervisor is impressed with your Workshop Proposal at this point and has permitted you to continue working on it. Using the Multigenerational Center Activity from Week 1 as a guide, describe the space you will use to deliver your workshop. Please be sure to name one of the areas shown in the Week 1 interactive, and explain why this is the ideal space for your workshop. You will include a complete list of all materials necessary to have a successful workshop. Review the rooms/locations from the interactive to determine if specific furniture needs to be included as well. All good presenters prepare for the unexpected. Think about your target audience, and anticipate two possible issues or roadblocks that may arise. Using your background knowledge of your field of study, share two possible solutions for each roadblock. To substantiate your workshop topic and to demonstrate the importance of this topic to your director, review the Professional Standards by Program table for your field of study. You will choose two of these standards and explain how they represent the objective of your workshop. There is no formal submission of this assignment due this week. You may reach out to your instructor with questions if necessary as you continue working.

  • Describe the environment or the space needed to deliver your workshop.
  • List the needs and/or supplies for the Workshop.
  • Describe two possible roadblocks and two corresponding solutions for each roadblock.
  • List two professional standards from your field of study.
  • Explain how the two standards support your content.

Part 4: Strategies
Use the Summative Template and fill out this section due in Week 5. In the final part of the Workshop Plan, you complete the final two components of the Summative Template. First you will review the University of Arizona Global Campus Multigenerational Center Activity in Week 1 again and decide which other groups (field of study?) would either benefit from your workshop presentation or could be incorporated somehow. For example, if your field of study is ECE, and you have created a workshop for preschool students to learn specific yoga poses, ask yourself how you could include one of the senior groups that meet at the center as well. The best workshops are those that keep teaching. Think of the positive relationships this could foster! In addition, you will include two strategies (using your text as a guide) to deliver the workshop objective.

  • Partnerships: Identify which groups at the Multigenerational Center could also benefit from the workshop. (Before, during, or after the workshop.)
  • Strategies: Identify two strategies to deliver your workshop.
