need presentation of 6-7 pages and written speech of 3-4 minutes about the presentation on one of the given articles.
read the instructions carefully—
Each student will individually prepare and deliver an oral presentation about the article researched. Each student will be responsible for creating a short 3-5 minute PowerPoint presentation to succinctly share the article. This is a 3-5 minute business presentation, so don’t make PowerPoint too lengthy and wordy. Keep it clean and simple with large fonts and images. NO animation/transitioning is required.
Many of the concepts you will be learning throughout this course are best understood as well as more interesting if you are aware of current and emerging MIS-related news in academic journals, newspapers, and magazines. This assignment will allow you to share an article of your choice from a reputable source and critique it. Key concepts include New and current technology; management information systems; innovation; analyzing media news; and business communication skills.
Find a recent article/topic published on or after September 1st, 2021 from either:
– The Economist
– Harvard Business Review
– Bloomberg Business Week
– Wired
– MIT Technology Review (http://www.technologyreview.com/)
– Fast Company
– The Financial Times
– New York Times
– itbusiness.ca
– Other approved sources (no blogs or obscure websites)
Your choice of the article may be generally based on a technological innovation, application of technology (successful or otherwise), or more specifically related to one of the topics we have discussed or will discuss in class (see the course outline). You should provide an electronic PDF copy of your chosen article with your submission.
Below are some guiding questions you could potentially consider when going through the analysis of your article:
– 5W’s of the article. Who/What/When/Where/Why of the article?
– Why you picked this article?
– What does the article tell us about the technology?
– Do you agree/like or disagree/dislike?
– How could this technology impact the future business?
– What are some business applications for this? What are the benefits for companies if they implemented this innovation?
– How does this topic relate to any of the topics that are covered in lecture/ in class?
– Lessons learned
You will be critiquing the content of the article (refer to the suggested analysis questions above). Do not critique the writing style or grammar used in the article. Focus your critique on the opinions and facts presented in the article. It is acceptable to present the critique using the first-person view. You are expected to provide a brief concluding slide to wrap up your presentation and lessons learned.
You will be graded on content, style and delivery of presentation. Try to make the presentation fun and interesting. NOTE: You may work in a group of 2s if you like BUT I do have higher expectations for group submission and I require all members to present. Make sure to include all group member names in your submissions, if you decide to work in group.
Submission:
– pdf of the presentation (save-as pdf); include a reference slide as the end
– Presentation video (mp4 or included in the PowerPoint)
– pdf of the article (from a webpage select print and then save-as-pdf)
