The theme: Is Peace Possible?

I would choose a historic or famous person

  1. Choose 2-3 current event stories in the news (video, article, essay, blog, news, etc.). Be sure to cite all sources. Read, view, participate.
  2. Choose a person living or dead, a historic or famous person, a family member, or a friend, a past teacher or mentor, etc. Someone you admire or respect for their accomplishments, what they stood for, or how they make you feel. Someone who if you could, you would want to go to for advice or to share your feelings about the current event(s)/activities you chose.
  3. Write a letter to this person and as you write, think of them as a mentor, or someone that you can go to and share almost anything. Your letter should be focused on your thoughts and feelings, and/or worries and questions related to the theme, ‘is peace possible?’ and the current event(s)/activities you chose. Write like you are journaling, in a narrative style. You can rant, seek perspective, ask for advice, express ideas, or discuss whatever comes to mind. Be sure to include why you chose this person (in the letter speak to why you chose them gives your work context) and include any connections with their life and yours. How did they influence you or how did you know them or what do you know about them?
  4. Try to not write it all in one sitting. Think of it a bit like journaling, sharing your feelings and reactions to the current event, try to make it like a daily practice (at least three writing sessions).
  5. Be sure to include all sources utilized in completing this activity. Minimum overall words for your letter; minimum 400/maximum 800. In  addition to 2-4 outside resources, include connection with at least 2 course resources from the text or a module (video or article). See the rubric for more guidance.
  6. Letters should be typed and double spaced, Times-Roman Font and submitted to the assignment box.
