Introduction
In this activity, we will activate prior and emerging research knowledge and skills in psychology.

Activity Instructions
Answer the following questions (include the question and then the answer):

  1. Based on the discussion in the text, what are some important issues that should be discussed in any comprehensive theory of personality?
  2. How different are the personality theories, really? Might they all be integrated into one theoretical framework? Or did they seem to differ fundamentally, perhaps because they differed on the aspects of personality that they were trying to explain?
  3. What are the primary limitations of all the theories? Specifically, what topics in personality psychology are intuitively important? What seemed to be less well covered by any of the theories?
  4. Based on the reading the material about “Persons in Cultures”, do you think Freud, Rogers, Eysenck, or Skinner, etc. would have developed the same theories they did if they had been raised in, e.g., an African or Asian culture rather than the US and/or Europe? Would Bandura have formulated the same theory, with a strong emphasis on self-efficacy What if the theorists had been female?
  5.  Discuss the relationships among theory, approach to research, and the approach to assessment in the light of the theories covered in the text. Also make mention of any ethical and legal issues inherent in the conceptualization and measurement of personality.
