The Presentation: The main function of PowerPoint is to visually enhance oralpresentations. In your project, the PowerPoint will be a stand-alone slidepresentation with narration, so the slides should enhance the narration; do NOTread from your slides. As with all acts of communication, the way you design aPowerPoint presentation depends greatly on the context of its delivery. Whenpreparing your presentation, imagine that you are speaking directly to your targetaudience. This means that you should carefully consider your approach, thelanguage that you use, and the usefulness and meaning of visual images.
Design your slidepresentation with the following in mind:
After considering your topic and your audience, decide whatapproach would work best to achieve your goal, e.g. an attitudinal approach ora cognitive behavioral approach. You should be clear about what you goal is.Are you trying to modify a health-risk behavior that is already in place (e.g.,smoking), are you trying to prevent a health-risk behavior from occurring (druguse, obesity), are you trying to enhance coping skills (stress, terminalillness)?
Design: Yourpresentation should be structured around the following five components:
1. What is thepurpose or goal of the presentation?
2. What is themost effective way in which to reach your target audience?
3. What does youraudience need to know about the topic?
4. Whatintervention (based upon known research findings) is best suited to achieve yourgoal?
5. Is mypresentation based upon a biopsychosocial model?
