  • In your own words, provide a general overview of the selected theory.

3. Paragraph 2: Theory History

  • In your own words, provide a historical overview for the theory you selected.
    • Include in your discussion at least one person or event influential to the development of your selected theory.
  • Discuss one way that the identified historical element(s) shaped the future of the theory selected.
  • Cite any and all sources you use with APA citations and corresponding references.
  • Do not use first person or opinion statements and limit the use of direct quotes.

4. Paragraph 3: Theory and Crime

  • In your own words, specifically discuss how the theory you selected explains criminal behavior.
    • In other words, what specific factor(s) does the theory associate with criminal behavior? Possibilities include, but are not limited to, individual choice, individual traits, social structures, and social processes. Please note that these are general categories—be specific in your discussion.
  • Cite any and all sources you use with APA citations and corresponding references.
  • Do not use first person or opinion statements and limit the use of direct quotes.

5. Paragraph 4: Theory Strengths and Weaknesses

  • In your own words, discuss at least one strength and one weakness (or criticism) of the theory with regard to its explanation of criminal behavior.
  • Support each strength and weakness/criticism with facts (in your own words) from reliable sources.
  • Cite any and all sources you use with APA citations and corresponding references.
  • Do not use first person or opinion statements and limit the use of direct quotes.

6. Paragraphs 5, 6, and 7: Theory and Public Policy

  • Using at least two reliable external sources (which must be cited throughout these paragraphs), research a public policy related to the theory discussed in Paragraphs 1–4
    • This could be a public policy that was discussed in your textbook or one you researched on your own but it must be related to the selected theory.
  • In your own words, discuss the public policy related to your selected theory.
    • Elements that must be discussed in these paragraphs include:
      • The name of the public policy
      • The purpose of the public policy, including the problem(s) the policy was meant to solve
      • The methodological elements (i.e., the systematic plan used to implement) of the public policy
      • The theoretical foundations of the public policy
        • In other words, how does this public policy link back to the specific elements of the theory discussed in Paragraphs 1–4?
      • The policy’s effectiveness at solving the problem(s) it was implemented to address
    • Cite any and all sources you use with APA citations and corresponding references.
    • Do not use first person or opinion statements and limit the use of direct quotes.
