Compose an essay (with appropriate transitions between paragraphs) of approximately 450 words, but no fewer than 300 words in which you explain why Sumner thinks that disillusioned desires undermine the desire satisfaction theory of well-being.

Your essay should have 3 paragraphs.

In the first paragraph introduce your topic and explain the desire satisfaction theory (20 points)

What does the desire satisfaction theory say? (Hint: there is more than one version of this theory, so you will need to be clear about which version you are talking about. Be sure to focus in your essay on the version of the theory that Sumner attacks via disillusioned desires.)

In the second paragraph explain Sumners argument against the desire satisfaction theory. Here you will need to address the following aspects of Sumners argument:

What example of disillusioned desire does Sumner use to undermine the desire satisfaction theory of well-being? (20 pts.)

What is Sumners methodology? And, in what way, according to this methodology, is the example of disillusioned desire relevant to the evaluation of this theory of well-being? (20 pts.)

In the third paragraph, critically evaluate Sumners position. Here you will need to:

Clearly state a position about some aspect of Sumners argument. (10 pts.)

Explain your reasons for holding this position. (10 pts.)
