Community Support Meeting

Attend a community support meeting of your choice and share your findings. Complete a one-page synopsis of your experience by answering the questions below. Submit via canvas. Address the objectives based on the experience at an AA, NA, Alanon or over-eaters anonymous open meeting. If the information obtained during the meeting does not provide the student with this specific information, additional online resources may be utilized. Be sure to cite resources in your journal entry.

Objectives: 

2. Discuss the role of the group as a community resource for clients with addiction and their families.

3. Identify the service this agency provides to the client.

4. Ascertain who is eligible to use the services of the group.

5. Discuss real or potentially legal, ethical or financial situations that impact the provision of services offered by the group.

6. Discuss the role of self-help groups in the recovery process of a client with an addiction to alcohol or drugs.

7. Discuss the “Twelve Steps” of AA/NA and state how they can assist the client with recovery.

8. Explore the role of sponsorship in the recovery process of a self-help group.

9. Describe 2 therapeutic communication techniques that were witnessed or utilized during the meeting.

10. State as least one thing that you learned (cognitive experience).

11. Describe the experience from an emotional perspective (what you felt).

Attend an Interdisciplinary Community Health Planning Committee Meeting via Zoom. Links will be provided in the Canvas Course Shell. Answer the following questions in a one-page paper after attending the meeting. Include any website links that explain the committee, population and/or those in attendance.

2.  Discuss the purpose of the group/committee.  
3.  Describe the various disciplines in attendance (ie. nurses, social worker, therapist, counselors, doctors and stakeholders).
4.  Describe the structure of the committee. What are the responsibilities of the committee members?

5. What community or population will this committees work impact?
6. Describe an example of effective communication among the members.
7. What were the barriers to the effectiveness of the committee?
