I HAVE CHOSEN THE TOPIC TO BE ON IMMIGRATION. Remember you will need three policy options. 

Congratulations! You get to keep your job as a Policy Analyst collaborating with the Biden Administration. Your first policy analysis paper was a test run of sorts. Now you show again what you have to offer to the people of the US and the world. You are writing a second policy analysis paper. You may choose to analyze a different area entirely or you may extend your previous analysis (from Policy Analysis Paper 1) to a different area.

Again, you will present three policy options on your specific chosen topic to the Biden Administration. One of your policies may or may not be a hold-over from the Trump Administration – that decision is yours. Here are some more details below.

The assignment: Choose a current issue (or comment on a particular policy debate) and evaluate alternative policy solutions, taking in consideration economic and political aspects (political aspects include whether or not you believe that your policy option of choice is acceptable in the present political climate), as well as one other aspect of your choosing (e.g. equity, humanitarian, ethical,…) related to the issue. The problem or policy debate should be at least tangentially related to some aspect of politics and/or policy between the US and LAC. For example, immigration may seem to be more directly related to US-LAC relations, while climate change may seem less directly related. Both are viable issue areas.

In your brief, you should answer the following questions:

1) What is the nature of the problem, what are its origins, and why is it important?

2) What policy options are available, and what are their strengths and weaknesses?

3) What is your preferred policy choice? Justify your choice. What criticism of your position would you anticipate?
