Tell the story of what happened in A Tale of Two Melons from the perspective of somebody who is not the emperor.

Tellthe story of what happened in A Tale of Two Melons from the perspectiveof somebody who is not the emperor. You may pick a minister at Ming Taizus court, for example, or a memberof the extended Zhang family (including men and women).  You may pick someone who was alive when theevents occurred, or turn to somebody who lived long after the fact.  Just imagine you are them, and give anaccount of the key events, and discuss why the story is important to you.  You are welcome to take your account in any directionyou chose, and to use any tone you see fit. Its up to you.  I only ask thatif you chose a minister from the court, that, at some point, you acknowledgethe perspective that a member of the Zhang family might have.  Likewise, if you chose to be a member of theZhang family, you must acknowledge at some point the perspective of someonefrom the Ming court.

Inassigning grades, I will assess your account according to the followingcriteria.  Broadly speaking, they are hesame as what I was looking for in the first paper:

1.       Clarity of the prose.  Write with purpose.  I am not grading your writing by the eleganceof your prose (though elegance is certainly welcome).  More than anything, I want to understand yourideas.  Be as concise and direct aspossible.  If your writing isdisorganized, Ill get lost.  If thelanguage is nebulous, I wont see your point. If the paper is riddled with typos and grammatical errors, I wontunderstand wyat yer tring to sey. Proofread.  When you finish, tryreading what you wrote aloud: the way it sounds to your ear is how it willsound to mine.  The clearer and cleaneryour prose, better.

2.       Your use of evidence.  As with the assignment for Yingyings Tale,to ensure your retelling is rigorous and fair, it is required that you annotateyour account with footnotes.  Eachfootnote should do two things: 1) It should cite your source; and 2) it shouldexplain in a brief sentence why that citation is relevant.  You are *not* required to cite any othersources other than Schneewinds A Tale of Two Melons.  When citing the book, then, you can simply abbreviatethe citation to Schneewind, [page number]. Citing page numbers is requiredand, as a rule of thumb, the morecitations you can provide, the better.  Ifyou chose for any reason to cite another source that I assigned for class, youcan simply cite the author, title, and page number.  If you choose for any reason to use a sourcefrom outside the course, you must cite it using the Chicago style forfootnotes.

3.       Your understanding of thebig picture.  Events happen, but they meandifferent things to different people.  Doyou appreciate the ways in which different people might perceive events?  Can you articulate the perspectives of othersrigorously?  The more I can see that you understandwho youre writing about, and how they saw the world, the better.

Basically you need to read a book and tell a story from a character’s perspective. Please read the book carefully and I’m willing to pay more
