Please complete the interview before attempting this report.

Be thorough in your responses, use complete sentences and correct grammar, punctuation and spelling.

There are 4 parts of this assignment.  Please separate section 3 into paragraphs.  Parts 1, 2 & 4 can be numbered or bulleted.

An interview would typically be a summary of your conversation with a mother, teacher, social worker, or someone else having expertise about children, the elderly or any other age group or topic discussed in the book or class.

  • Choose a fairly narrow topic, such as “Generativity vs. Stagnation in older age”, ” Friendships in Adolescent Teens” or “A mother’s recall of her childbirth experience (you can choose your own topic as these are just examples).”  Use your imagination and available resources.
  • Choose someone to interview (they can remain anonymous if necessary)

Part 1: 10 points

*The Interview Questions & Responses must be typed and turned in to me in conjunction of this report for credit.

  • Use your text/notes to develop at least 10 open-ended questions  (this is to allow for a more elaborated response) that relate to what you have learned in class about your topic.
  • Plan to interview this individual for about 45-60 minutes, and have your questions written out in advance.
  • Include only limited direct quotes/responses from your interviewee with the list of questions. I want your insights about this individual’s remarks in part 3.
  • Also be sure to conduct your interview following ethical principles.

Part 2: 5 points

Please provide responses:  (responses may be brief)

  • Topic
  • Age group in relation to lifespan
    • Newborn: birth to 1 month
    • Infant: 1 month to 1 year
    • Toddler: 1 year to 2 years
    • Preschooler: 2 years to 6 years
    • School-age child: 6 years to 12 years
    • Adolescent: 12 years to 20 years
    • Young adult: 20 years to 40 years
    • Middle-age adult: 40 years to 60 years
    • Young-old adult: 60 years to 80 years
    • Old-old adult: 80 years and beyond
  • What are 3 topics that you expected to learn specifically about this age group before completing the interview (use complete sentences)?

Part 3: 30 points (10 pts per topic)    Please be thorough, elaborate, be descriptive.

Describe and discuss how the interview responses relate to THREE cognitivesocial and/or physical aspects of the age group you chose.  You can do any combination of these 3 (ex. 3 cognitive, 2 social and 1 physical, 2 physical and 1 cognitive, etc.) but the topic must be specific and thoroughly explained.

Responses should relate to specific topics for the lifespan-review/use textbook or the internet for ideas.

IF this was your age group and social topic interest(s):

(Adolescents and Friendships): quality, consequences, peer groups, peer pressure, popularity and rejection, aggressiveness…you would choose three of these social topics to describe friendships during adolescence and how your interaction/service confirmed or contradicted what the textbook, research and life experiences have portrayed.

Peer Groups includes cliques and crowds.  Whichever topic you choose, you would define AND explain how it relates to this age group.  You would then make a relation between the topic and the interview experience.

Part 4: 5 points

Answer the following questions using complete sentences.  I’m curious to know…Don’t worry, this won’t be counted against you.

  1.  Why did you choose this topic and age group?  Explain.
  2. Would you recommend this assignment in the future and why/why not?
  3. What would you suggest doing differently?
  4. About how long did this assignment take you to complete (coming up with questions, the actual interview, writing the report)?
  5. What was your biggest takeaway after completing this assignment?
