Learning through Play – Anji Play

Video Reflection – Learning through Play

Part of developing a curriculum for an early childhood setting requires that you develop an area for physical development as well. We typically consider these areas to be outdoor areas but they can also include indoor areas such as climbing ladders, slide, tumble mats, etc.

Young children need and want to take risks in order to explore limits, venture into new experiences and develop their capacities. They respond to challenges such as climbing stairs or walking by taking these calculated risks. The video below tells the story of AnjiPlay which provides preschool children in China to take these calculated risks. It is not the type of play that we would see in a typical preschool in the US but it does demonstrate how children are capable of overcoming challenges during play.

After viewing the video presentation, Learning through Play, you will need to write a reflection about what you learned from the video or what caught your attention. Your reflection should be ¾ to 1 page in length and should be in your own words.
