Econ Live is an activity designed to get you to start thinking about economics in your daily life. You must post no later than 5 p.m. on Friday of Week 10. You must choose one or more economic concepts that we studied in Econ 20A and demonstrate how that concept applies to your daily life. This year, I would like you to focus on economics and how the pandemic has been at work in your life. It is up to you on how you demonstrate the concept at work in your life. You could take a picture, make a video, write a blog post, whatever. You are encouraged to be creative. Everyone in this class is young, smart, technologically savvy, and creative. I’m hoping that you will really impress me. If you participate by making a post that demonstrates the concept at work in your life, you will receive full participation credit. If you impress me, I will reward you with more points. I won’t put a limit on how many points, since if somebody does something really incredible I might give them 3500 points! If you look at the main Econ Live tumblr page (link on the course website), you will see some of the posts from last quarter. However, some of these posts are very creative but they don’t demonstrate the concept in the person’s own life. So be sure to focus your post on the concept at work in your own life. If you are confused, then ask your TA, come to my office hours, post a question to the questions forum. And, remember, this is meant to be fun.
· Here’s the point of the exercise: the economic concepts we are learning are not abstract, they are at work in our everyday lives. Your task is simple: illustrate one or more of these concepts in real life, as you, or your community, experience it. It’s completely up to you how you demonstrate it. If you do this, you will receive the participation points no matter what. By giving extra credit, I am incentivizing you to be creative.
· Here’s what I don’t want: look at some of the posts on the tumblr page from last winter, some of them are not about the person’s life and how opportunity cost (or another concept) is a part of their lives. Some of the posts are memes or comics copied from the internet. If you do this, you won’t receive participation credit.
· You need to create something that shows you understand how the concept(s) relate to the real world that you inhabit.
· This year, I really would like you to focus on your life during the pandemic.
