E-portfolios carry numerous positive outcomes HW

This week, reflect on all that you have accomplished in this course and throughout your program. Consider the following items for this week’s discussion, and discuss a minimum of two. You are welcome, and encouraged, to discuss as many as you like.

· Do you think you will use the ePortfolio you created as a career tool or for other purposes? How can the ePortfolio support the professional goals you set?

· How have you evolved as a nurse throughout the course of your studies? Were there any unexpected gains? Did you achieve all that you hoped you would when you began the program?

· What challenges did you overcome during your studies? How did you rise above them?

· Will your professional role with your colleagues, formal or informal, change now that you have furthered your education and gained new insights into the profession? Explain.

· Recall one of your most memorable and/or most challenging courses or assignments or academic experiences. Describe how this experience impacted you professionally and/or personally.

· What recommendations would you have for other RNs coming into the program? What tips or words of advice would you offer?

1. Do you think you will use the ePortfolio you created as a career tool or for other purposes?

I will use it as a career tool. This is because an electronic portfolio will not only enable me to showcase my talents and skills, but it will also draw the attention of future employers to my uniqueness (McMillan, Parker & Sport, 2014). A digital collection like an electronic portfolio document learning outcomes, competencies, and specific achievements that are assembled to reveal a nurse’s learning journey across time.

2. How can the ePortfolio support the professional goals you set?

E-portfolios carry numerous positive outcomes like offering a structure for planning career progression, supporting professional collaboration, and competency development. The portfolio can support my professional goals using a critically reflective approach (McMillan, Parker & Sport, 2014). While in nursing school, the e-portfolio encouraged knowledge application and integration, helped me identify performance gaps, fostered my development, and promoted my learning responsibilities.

3. How have you evolved as a nurse throughout the course of your studies?

I have evolved very nicely. Even after graduating and becoming a licensed Registered Nurse (RN), I came to realize that education does not end. Rather, I embarked on a journey of lifelong learning that goes on throughout a nursing career. To keep abreast of nursing changes, I continue to gather information.

4. Were there any unexpected gains? E-portfolios carry numerous positive outcomes HW

Yes, there were unexpected gains. I found myself involved in formal or informal learning opportunities like attending conferences, joining nursing associations, and volunteering. I have also received on-the-job training.

5. Did you achieve all that you hoped you would when you began the program?

I would not say I have achieved all I hoped for since I still have many things to learn and experience. Evolving practices make healthcare complex. To fulfill all my dreams, I need to develop better critical-thinking and problem-solving skills required to resolve issues.

6. What challenges did you overcome during your studies?

I encountered several. First was inadequate readiness, inadequate knowledge, and deficient practical skills (Handwerker, 2018). When dealing with a clinical learning environment, I did not have ample knowledge to care at the bedside.

7. How did you rise above them?

First of all, I knuckled down and kept my head-up. I then consulted with my tutors to help me become a better prepared individual overall. Lastly, I looked myself into the mirror and promised to do better no matter what it took.

8. Will your professional role with your colleagues, formal or informal, change now that you have furthered your education and gained new insights into the profession? Explain.

Informal roles might change but formal roles will remain still or become improved. This is because despite gaining new insights into the nursing profession, some consider me as a rookie. To change that perception, I will need all the help and guidance I can get from experienced heads rather than trying to do it on my own.

9. Recall one of your most memorable and/or most challenging courses or assignments or academic experiences.

During my clinicals, we were once given a tough assignment related to disability. My preceptor wanted us to select one case study of a disabled person from a provided list. He also wanted us to consider what it would be like to live for an entire day with this condition. I really enjoy my class NUR495A and B.

10. Describe how this experience impacted you professionally and/or personally.

Personally, this experience made me understand how the severity of a disability like an occipital lobe cerebrovascular accident can cause major challenges to the quality of life. I could not imagine not being able to work, communicate, or eating properly (Jawabri & Sharma, 2019). Professionally, this assignment helped me understand that when taking care of the disabled, I should be caring and not jump to any conclusions.

11. What recommendations would you have for other RNs coming into the program?

I would recommend other RNs coming to the BSN program to have some relevant work experience and strong academic performance. I would tell them that schools look for a variety of skills and traits. An RN can show whether he or she is an ideal candidate for the nursing program through their interviews, essays, and application

· Do you think you will use the ePortfolio you created as a career tool or for other purposes? How can the ePortfolio support the professional goals you set?

The ePortfolio I created will serve many purposes. For instance, it will help me recognize performance and at the same time foster my development. Therefore, I will utilize it both as a career tool and for many other purposes. I will use the ePortfolio I created as a career tool in that it will help me showcase my unique attributes and best academic work that cannot be showcased in most of the traditional resumes and the event of an interview.

· How have you evolved as a nurse throughout the course of your studies? Were there any unexpected gains? Did you achieve all that you hoped you would when you began the program?

This class has equipped me with relevant knowledge in nursing. Initially, I knew very few as far as the nursing field is concerned. However, after learning various things during this course, I have come to know much better and I am confident that I will apply the same in my career. The practical sessions, in particular, were very helpful and made me understand nursing better than before. Despite not achieving everything that I hoped for, but I know this will set me up for many things in my career and studies.

· What challenges did you overcome during your studies? How did you rise above them?

Just like any other studies, I faced some challenges in this class but fortunately, I overcame most of them. One of these challenges was handling many online assignments particularly when the COVID-19 pandemic began. Many of my colleagues could not attend their online sessions because we had been used to the traditional classroom. I took this as a challenge and after some months, I adapted well and handled as many tasks as possible. I dedicated most of my time studying online and within a short time, I mastered the skills required just like every other class. Generally, the busy schedule meant that I was to handle many online classes and the ePortfolio within a limited time. However, I solved this by drawing up a timetable for every class and assignment. Finally, I made it and I look forward to excellent grades. E-portfolios carry numerous positive outcomes HW
