For the past decades, researchers and practitioners working in corrections have shifted from a “nothing works” to a “what works” orientation. The article by Newsom & Cullen (2017) (in this unit’s Readings) illustrates various issues regarding “what works” and “what does not work” with regards to interventions due to societal concerns for offender rehabilitation programs so as to lower the recidivism rate. There are numerous obstacles and limitations within correctional facilities that inhibit effective treatment programs. As forensic psychologist attempting to resolve his issues is of great interest and value to not only the inmates but society as a whole.
