You will write a 500 – 600 word ANALYTICAL research paper. The topic is your choice, but must focus on American government. This is a progressive assignment: you will submit your topic and a research question about the topic for approval by the published deadline, submit your academic resources by the published deadline, and complete a self-assessment quiz to ensure you meet the requirements for your paper prior to turning in your final paper. Deadlines for any component of this research paper cannot be extended; submitting early is always an option, but grading will not occur until the deadline passes unless you email me in D2L and specifically ask me to grade it earlier. You will not be allowed to revise and resubmit, however.

The majority of your grade for this paper rests with the final paper, but all assignments contribute to the category. Failure to submit any aspect of this assignment will impact both your course grade. Components of the paper are due by 11 pm on the dates indicated on the planner.

This essay is analytical, not argumentative. That means that you are not arguing a point; you are conducting research and applying it to the topic you have selected.

Essays cannot be less than 500 words or more than 600 words, excluding titles, headers, and References. Essays must be submitted as Word documents and be written using APA Style

You are expected to use, at minimum, the following academic, primary sources for your analysis: a survey or poll, a current event (you can use one or more from your Current Event submissions, as appropriate), a peer reviewed academic journal, and a non-fiction book. All are to be listed on your References page, along with your textbook if you use it.
