consider the causative factors

Hello Samuel, I really appreciate the fact that you have mentioned the essence of understanding the underlying issues behind certain behaviors such as bullying. Normally, we tend to label such behavior as bad and unacceptable yet we do not consider the causative factors. I believe that bullies are normal individuals experiencing various stressors which cause them to express agitated behavior. Instead of shaming them, helping them by giving them support, medication, or therapy would be much more impactful. I totally agree with the idea of working on ourselves first as adults so that we can offer the best possible support to children. By doing so, we shall be in a better position to help them by counselling and guiding them. I also support the notion of eliminating any personal biases that we may have regarding emotional/behavioral disorders or ADHD. These biases may hinder our understanding of individuals with such disorders; thus, prevent us from offering support and promoting inclusivity.

Hey Gabriella, I like the fact that you stated the prevalence of EBD in special education students; it was intriguing to find out in the readings that it is only a small number of students with special needs who are affected. Also, I approve the notion that cultural factors such as gender and ethnicity affect the manner in which individuals with such disorders are diagnosed and helped. Most importantly, I agree with the idea of supporting the students with EBD or ADHD so that they can feel like they belong. As you have stated, most of them tend to drop out of school because they feel like they do not fit in and they need an environment where they are not regarded as “misfits”. Thus, I believe that it would be very helpful to communicate with them and offer help whenever necessary. I support the strategy of breaking down larger tasks into smaller tasks so that the students with EBD or ADHD can find it easy to complete such tasks without frustration, which reduces their agitation or impulsiveness.
