You are running for Governor of California. How many essay questions begin by putting that much pressure on you? Don’t worry, the question gets better. You are running in ONE of the following gubernatorial elections listed below. What are the biggest issues facing the state (and the nation, if necessary)? Citing the general mindset of Californians and current events, what are your policy proposals? What are the biggest issues in this election and how will the state handle them in your administration? Most importantly, who else is running for governor (on a major party’s ticket) and how will you do a better job than each (major party) candidate? You may agree with a candidate on any of the issues, but you should make yourself stand out. Perhaps you don’t think they’ll really accomplish everything they have promised? How will you do a better job? Base your answer on what you think is important to California voters during the election in which you are running. Happy campaigning!

Start by giving some background context. Who is the governor at this point, and what kind of job is he doing? To help point you in the right direction, you can consider the following. What events might have been on the minds of California voters? Why might each political party have nominated who they nominated? What were the biggest issues that the nominees ultimately debated? How close was the election?

Here are a few notes to help you. First, this is a somewhat open-ended assignment. A good submission will consist of well-stated facts (objective information) and your own personal analysis. Your opinions and analyses will not be graded as right or wrong, but your ability to back them up with solid, factual information will be.
