For this discussion board topic, I want you to research significant or famous Earthquake or Tsunami events.  This is first-come, first-served for earthquakes/tsunamis, so read through your fellow classmates threads, and if someone else has already discussed the earthquake/tsunami you picked, you will have to choose a different location or event. 

Start by creating a thread and list the subject as the geographic location and year of the earthquake you will discuss.  Then, within your thread message, research and include the following information about the earthquake event:

  – Give latitude and longitude coordinates for the epicenter of the earthquake. Did this earthquake occur at a plate boundary, or fault?  What type of boundary or fault?

  – What was the focus depth of the earthquake?  What was the magnitude of the earthquake event?

  – Were there any foreshock or aftershock events?  Is there a possibility for future quakes at this location?

  – What was the extent of damage from this event? Any estimated damage costs? (you can include images, but please consider what images you post).

  – Any additional geologic information to share about this earthquake event?  (landslides, tsunami, land deformation, volcanic eruptions)?

  – Any pertinent photos or videos illustrating the magnitude of the earthquake event?  

  – What can be done or has been done to prevent or educate people in the region about future earthquakes?

Be sure to also discuss with a minimum of two classmates about the various earthquake events.  Read through the other threads and discuss the impacts of these earthquakes, and anything you may have learned in your research to prepare a community.   Remember that one or two sentence posts do not count as full credit, so please have a discussion with your fellow classmates.
