For this project, you are going to research graduate programs in your area of study (or not if you want to look into something else outside of your major, please do!)

Here’s why you are doing this:

1. It lets you know what is possible out there if you ever want to.

2. You get to see what other people in your field are doing.

3. It will help you write a better Personal Statement for Project 2. Writing a good Personal Statement is not easy, and the better you know your graduate program, the stronger it will be. The Personal Statement also serves as a cornerstone document you can use in the future. Whether you are later writing a cover letter for a job or internship, having the Personal Statement to look back at and draw from will be invaluable.

Here’s what you need to do:

1. Describe the program. What is the program’s mission statement? Teaching practices (cohort-based, hands-on based etc)? Which area of study are you interested in and why?

2. Describe two professors in the program that you would like to study with. What is his/her area of expertise? What classes do they teach? Why would you like to study with him/her? (Please look up their faculty webpage, curriculum vitae, and syllabi)

3. What types of graduate fellowships, such as a Teaching Associate, Graduate Assistant, and Instructional Student Assistant, are offered? Stipends? Scholarships?

4. Why is this program a good fit for you academically and professionally? Be specific.

Each answer should be at least two paragraphs long. You must be specific in your answers–do not generalize.
