Defining the Sacred: choose 2 sacred texts that we have read, 1 from the two Abrahamic faiths (Islam and Christianity) and 1 from the Eastern religions (Hinduism, Buddhism, and Confucianism) and make an argument about what similarities they have, and what those similarities can tell us about what it means for a text to be “sacred.”
Tragedy Across the Mediterranean: Consider “The Tale of Sohrab” from the Shahnameh in comparison to Oedipus Tyrannus from the Week 2 readings. Make an argument about whether the two texts are more alike or different and why. Focus your thesis on one particular aspect of the two texts such as protagonists, themes, central conflicts, or other another element that you see as important.
Make your own topic: create your own critical question to answer. If you choose this topic you must contact the instructor for approval by Thursday of Week 6. Project submissions with unapproved topics will be returned ungraded.
Options:
You have the option of either writing a traditional analytic essay or completing another multimedia presentation. The requirements for each are slightly different. Note: Do not do both!
Traditional Essay:
MLA, APA, or Chicago formatting for the document, in-text citations, and reference page
500-1000 words
Multimedia Presentation:
There should be a combination of visuals and writing (think about 350-700 words). The writing can be in the animation/slides themselves, or it can be separate such as in the speaker’s notes or a Word document meant to accompany the presentation.
All aspects of the project should be your own impression and words, but the visuals can come from anywhere, so have fun with that Google Image search.
Presentation options:
Powtoon
Prezi
Biteable
Moovely
Animoto
Audio Voiceover
Instagram
PowerPoint
Screencast (Jing)
Google Sites
Canva

All presentations should have:
A title slide.
MLA, APA, or Chicago citations/works cited page (for the images, music, etc, as no research is required).
The project’s text should be approximately 350-700 words
Note that all writing in the project should be original; the projects will be run through Turnitin upon submission, and all distinctive matching information caught by Turnitin must be formatted as a quotation. DO NOT copy-paste material without immediately marking it as a quotation and citing it. Any multimedia (art, music) inserted or linked in the presentation should also include full bibliographic information.
