Historiography paper on loyalists in the American Revolutionary War

There’s 3 sources, all three of the books from the email.

“Josh, pretty good start here. You do a very good job summarizing the books and giving the reader a feel for the material. Your thesis needs to be a bit more specific though in order to make sure you are making a clear argument. While it is 100% true from the American perspective today that soldiers see more of the barbarism of war, I am not sure that holds up during World War II when millions of civilians would have been confronted with horrors and atrocities daily. Also, you need to be more clear from the beginning that you are only talking about American soldiers and from the US perspective. Much of what you write is unclear on this and so at times does not work very well. Also, your depictions of the Japanese and the Pacific might need to be a little more thought out based on the material. In class you have brought up that you see the Japanese as more savage and you certainly repeat that here in the paper. That is a very common American version of the war and the Japanese based on openly racist US propaganda from the time. It is best to leave that garbage in the past and look more toward what is in the actual historical record. This means not always trusting the sources as completely accurate and honest. This is especially true as you are only using material by US writers who have a clear bias point which you could bring up in the material to add more depth. Finally, your section on Wake Island Pilate is copied from online and is not your own work. That is something that you need to address before the final paper.”

The assignment is “Your final paper needs to be an approximately fifteen-page comparative history paper based on at least three of the biographies/autobiographies from the list provided. Your job is to pick (at least) three of the sources from the list and read them. Then, using those books as sources, make an argument about the war. Your thesis needs to be clear and direct, so avoid over generalizations like “the war was bad for everyone.” We will work on this as we go collectively and as individuals.”

the three books I’m studying are :

With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa by Eugene B. Sledge. Sledge

Road to Huertgen: Forrest in Hell by Paul Boesch

Wake Island Pilot by John F McKinney

I’ve attached my rough draft that I turned in to the professor for review. It’s 7-8 pages and has the general idea of where I was going with it. It al.so has his feedback on it
