Reaction Paper (Worth 10% of your grade)
Active learners think about what they are reading/watching/listening to and how it relates to their experience or prior knowledge. By doing so, they process the information at a deeper level and are more likely to remember it later. The goal of this assignment is to draw parallels between what you have read in the textbook and the story told in the assigned movie. If you are unable to draw any parallels, then you are not reading or watching actively! Reaction paper requirements are as follows:
From the list below (ONLY), choose one chapter from the list and one movie corresponding with that chapter. For your paper, you will choose one or more topics from within your chosen chapter and describe/analyze how the topics of the chapter relate to the associated movie. (For example, if you chose to watch “The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons,” you would analyze how Benjamin’s pattern of development matched or mismatched the stages of development described in the specified chapter).
You must begin your reaction paper with a paragraph designed to capture the reader’s/ listener’s attention and that reflects the key issues/points that serve as the subject of your paper. Do not say “This movie is about…”, instead, try to write in a way that, when read, will catch the attention of your audience.
Following this introductory paragraph, state the key idea(s)/point(s) that you want to make about the movie. You should then spend the rest of the paper providing support for the statement(s) you make here. One way to approach this is to identify the central point(s) you want your audience to remember and then use the rest of the paper to convince them of your claim(s). Avoid statements such as “I liked/disliked this movie…”.
Papers should end with a conclusion paragraph; this paragraph should wrap up your thoughts and the point of your paper.
Refrain from being a critic or summarizing the movie. Overall, there should be an integration of the chapter content and the movie throughout your paper, with citations to match.
Choose your chapter and associated movie from this list (ONLY):
