Please research several computer use policies online. You may use them as guides in developing your policy. However, it is very important that you do not duplicate or copy any policy to avoid copyright infringement claims against the company.

Prepare an instructional report that explains your recommendation for a network.

Please include the following in your report. Make sure you thoroughly explain all topics prior to making your recommendations.

Explain ethical computing.
Explain plagiarism and copyright infringement.
What is the difference between the two?
How do you know if you are plagiarizing or violating copyright?
Research plagiarism and find an example of plagiarism that was in the news.
Explain copyleft.
Explain software piracy.
What are the legal penalties?
Sharing an Internet connection (piggybacking).
What are the legal penalties?
Explain ethical issues related to using social media.
Give a specific example from the news where an employee was terminated due to actions on social media.
Explain an employer’s legal right to review your activities using their technology. Give specific examples where the law has been upheld or applied for each of the following:
Keylogging
Reading emails
Monitoring Internet usage/sites visited
Identify and explain a minimum of three ways in which to secure your home network.
Identify and explain a minimum of four ways in which to secure your personal computer.

When answering these questions, please write 3 to 4 sentences on each topic. Remember to explain why your recommendations are appropriate given the facts.

Minimum Submission Requirements

This Assessment should be a Microsoft Word document.
Your paper must have 1” margins on all sides and be double spaced using a serif font (Times New Roman, Cambria, Palatino, etc.) in 12-point type.
Your paper must be written in Standard English using full sentences.
Use paragraphs to separate ideas. Each topic should have its own paragraph (i.e., processor, memory, storage). The terms should be in bold, followed by your definition.
You may not use any quotations. All information must be paraphrased or summarized in your own words.
Each paragraph must include at least one citation showing where your information was found. You may use the same source for more than one topic, but each topic must identify the source(s) used. APA citations and references are acceptable but not required. Review the APA formatting and citation style found in the Writing Center.
Citations must include the full URL (for instance http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/h/harddriv.htm). Top level sites such as http://www.computerhope.com/ are not acceptable). Books must include the full title, author, year of publication, and page number.

Plagiarism

Plagiarism is an act of academic dishonesty. It violates the Honor Code, and the offense is subject to disciplinary action. You are expected to be the sole author of your work. Use of another person’s work or ideas must be accompanied by specific citations and references. Whether the action is intentional or not, it still constitutes plagiarism.

If work submitted for this competency assessment does not meet the minimum submission requirements, it will be returned without being scored.
