Evaluating Content for Accuracy

In Chapter 2, we learned how to contrast the reliability of information found on the web with that found in journals and textbooks.  We learned that “fake news” is the promotion of “information that is inaccurate or biased.”

Perform a web search to find a news article of interest to you (sports, entertainment, science, business, etc.).  Evaluate the article to determine the accuracy of its information taking Authority, Accuracy, Objectivity, and Currency into consideration.  Then answer the following questions:

1. Provide a brief overview of your article.

2. Evaluate the article for the following:

• Authority – is the author an authority on the subject?  How do you know?  What related articles has he/she written?  What is his/her background? Where (on what site(s) is the article published?
• Accuracy – are other sites publishing similar information?  If so, are these sites reputable?
• Objectivity – does the author present the information in a biased manner? Does he/she appear to have an agenda?
• Currency – Is the information presented in the article recent?  When was the article published?

6. Based on your responses to the above, do you believe the article’s content to be true, fair, and unbiased?  Is this an article you would feel comfortable citing in a research paper, presentation, or other assignment?

You must respond to the questions using proper grammar, sentence structure, and spelling. This is an academic environment and “text-messaging writing” is not acceptable. After you have posted your answers to the questions (250 words or more),
