Effective Fundraising Approaches
There are many fundraising approaches to choose from to encourage donors to financially contribute to an organization. As an administrator, you want to carefully align fundraising approaches with your organization’s philosophy, vision, mission, and goals. For this discussion, you will research either a for-profit or nonprofit early childhood organization and answer all of the questions listed below. (Suggestion- start by searching “early childhood nonprofit”)
Please respond to the following:
- Provide the title and web link of the organization and briefly describe their philosophy, vision, mission, and goals (this can usually be found in the “About” section).
- What types of fundraising approaches or events is the organization currently using?
- How do these approaches align with the organization’s philosophy, vision, mission, and goals? (You may have to browse the site, but often this might be listed under “Events” or “News”.)
- Based on what you learned about this organization, what type of person-to-person fundraising approaches would be most appropriate?
- Which of these would you be most comfortable doing and which would you find most challenging?
Keep in mind that when you post, you should always reference items you cite — be sure to use APA format for this. Also, be sure to refer back to the rubric as often as you need to during the week. The class is all about sharing knowledge, so use discussions as a way of creating a community resource for yourself and your colleagues.
This discussion addresses the following unit learning outcomes:
- Identify a variety of fundraising principles and approaches.
- Explore the ways organizations use websites for fundraising activities.
It also addresses the following Course Outcomes:
CE370-4: Explore multiple sources of funding and financing including federal, state, local, private, grant writing, and alternative approaches.
CE370-5: Assess the alignment of principles of early childhood funding development and financial planning with program philosophy, vision, mission, and goals.

The following manual although published in 1998 still contains a wealth of information that is valuable when planning fundraisers.
